Progress for frontline communities starts with just policies at every level of government. We advocate for environmental justice legislation at the New York City, New York State, and Federal levels to create the environmentally just future that communities deserve.
NEW YORK STATE
The Beauty Justice Act
Due to racist beauty standards and aggressive marketing, people of color are exposed to toxic chemicals at disproportionately higher rates. The Beauty Justice Act will stop the sale of cosmetics and personal care products that contain dangerous chemicals such as PFAS from being sold in New York.
The Lead Paint Right to Know Act
New York leads the nation in elevated lead blood levels in children and many families do not know that their children are being exposed in their own homes. The Lead Paint Right to Know Act will force landlords and home sellers to disclose the existence of lead paint to tenants and buyers.
NY HEAT Act
Utility costs in New York are skyrocketing even as the state continues to subsidize fossil fuels that are driving the climate crisis. The NY HEAT Act will lower energy costs for low-income and middle-income New Yorkers and push New York State away from reliance on fossil fuels.
Enhanced Public Participation Act
Communities of color and low-income neighborhoods have long been the target of dirty, polluting facilities without the knowledge or consent of the community. The Enhanced Public Participation Act will make sure that no industry project in the state can happen without community input.
